Flash floods tear through Culloden communities

CULLODEN, WV (WCHS/WVAH) — As flash floods raged through Huntington, the storms continued down I-64 to Culloden where several communities were flooded.

Many people living along Route 60 in Culloden said they have never seen flooding like they did Thursday evening, and right now, they’re happy to be alive.

Home video from a Culloden resident shows mobile homes sitting like islands in floodwaters. Torrential rains in the afternoon caused flash flooding in much of the area.

"I just came to help,” Holly Finney said.

Finney jumped into the water with her fiancé to take people to safety.

"The first time I looked up it was about ankle deep. By the time I got to it it was over my waist,” Finney said.
