We drive by the same group of trees each time we come into town, and for a few years now, they have been holding a reminder of an unbelievably scary day for many people. Caught in the mostly limbless trees is a huge chunk of twisted metal. It’s nestled there, not moving a bit in the years that have gone by since the “twin twisters” hit.

That June day was filled with severe tornadoes. Nothing new for Nebraska, but this day, the tornadoes ended up being closer than ever before. They did incredible damage all around us and nearly destroyed the entire town we can see right from our front porch. That day was a huge wound for many.

Years - Time - Wounds - Wounds - Ones

Years have passed, and with time, wounds have healed. But as with all wounds, even healed ones leave a mark, a scar, a reminder of the hurt and destruction. The scar is a reminder of what we have endured, of what we have overcome. That huge piece of twisted metal in the limbless trees is a reminder of what people around here survived; it is part of our story, and it has shaped us.

Scars show that we may have suffered, but by the power of the Holy Spirit, we have overcome and we know that God is sufficient. Scars are proof that He will carry us through anything, that we can get through everything. We can make it through the storm because God is with us, and there are no limits to His great...
