7 killed, 13 others wounded in citywide shootings since Friday afternoon

Seven people were killed and at least 13 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday afternoon.

In the most recent fatal shooting, a 36-year-old man was shot and killed by a group of five people on the Near North Side.

Man - Car - Pm - Sunday - Block

The man was sitting in his parked car about 8:45 p.m., Sunday in the 500 block of West Division Street when a group of five armed people approached him in his parked car and fired shots, Chicago Police said.

The man was shot in the back and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office did not immediately confirm the death. No one was in custody as detectives investigated.

Hours - Man - Block - Line - Stop

A few hours earlier, a 49-year-old man was shot within a block of a Green Line stop in the West Side Austin neighborhood. About 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the 49-year-old was in the 300 block of North Central Avenue when he was shot in the chest, Chicago Police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office did not immediately confirm the death.

On Saturday night, a man was killed and another was grazed by a bullet as they were driving in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, according to police. The men, ages 27 and 32, were traveling south in a Chevrolet Equinox at 10:33 p.m. in the 4900 block of South Ashland when two other males got out of a dark-colored SUV and opened fire. The older man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body, while the younger man was grazed in the right hand.
