Authorities in Washington state have revealed the identity of the US airman who shot dead his wife and two young children as they lay in their beds before calling 911, confessing, and then killing himself.
Clinton Field, 29, was an administrative worker for the US Air Force at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Investigators say that Field shot and killed his two-year-old son, Ashen, and his young daughter, four-year-old Ava, as they lay in their beds after midnight on Tuesday, according to The News Tribune of Tacoma.
Field then fatally shot his wife, Samantha Field, while she was also sleeping.

The airman then posted a message on Facebook and sent a text message to this father.
At around 1:00am on Tuesday, he called 911.

Pierce County Sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer said Field confessed to killing his family.
'He thanked us for our time, but said by the time we got there he would be deceased as well, and he followed through with that,' said Troyer.

Dispatchers desperately tried to get Field back on the phone while a SWAT team was sent to the house, but it was too late.
Sheriff's investigators found the bodies inside the family's home near Spanaway, 45 miles south of Seattle.
