The Indiana man who allegedly beat two dogs to death had stolen them from a woman after she rebuffed his advances, court documents have revealed.
Anthony Priestas, 23, has been charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty for allegedly killing two pet pugs belonging to Brandy Ortiz.

Ortiz told investigators that she remembered a 'male subject who has been trying to date her, but she has stayed off his advances', according to the Chicago Tribune.
The pugs, named Marley and Mugsy, were stolen on February 21 from the home that Ortiz shares with her parents in Winfield, Indiana.

Ortiz was attending class at Indiana University Northwest while her mother was grocery shopping at the time of the burglary.
A neighbor reported seeing a 'short kid with dark hair' break into the family's house around 10am and take the pugs, Ortiz wrote on her Facebook page.

The neighbor told police that the suspect 'had walked, facing her holding a pug under each of his arms as he returned to his vehicles'.
Half an hour later, a resident in Porter Township saw Priestas allegedly 'slamming a small canine onto the ground several times', court documents state.

She also reported seeing him beat the dog with a black object and heard the animal 'screeching in pain'.
The woman told police that she 'opened the front door and yelled at the male subject to stop hurting the dogs'.
