Stunning photos have captured fog rolling into New York City and blanketing the Brooklyn Bridge.

The famous landmark is seen underneath a thick mist as the top half of the Big Apple's skyline sits obscured.

Passersby were forced to open umbrellas as they walked along Brooklyn Bridge Park due to a slight drizzle.

As the holiday weekend kicks off on Friday, heavy rain is expected along with warmer temperatures that will likely melt lots of snow, forecasters predict.

Conditions - Delays - Flights - LaGuardia - Kennedy

However, conditions were causing delays for arriving flights at LaGuardia and Kennedy airports, according to the Federal Aviation Administration website.

Forecasters caution that the fog could be particularly dense during Friday morning's commute.

'Areas - Fog - Visibility - Half - Mile

'Areas of fog with a visibility of mostly one half to one mile will continue across the entire tri-state area this morning,' the National Weather Service said. 'There will however be some areas where visibility will be reduced to a quarter mile or less by the fog.'
