Wuhan coronavirus: China shuts DISNEYLAND and at least 10 cities go into lockdown

Part of the Great Wall of China and Disneyland in Shanghai have been closed to stop people spreading the deadly Wuhan coronavirus, Chinese officials have announced.

At least 10 cities in China, home to around 33million people, have gone into some form of lockdown in the past couple of days, with public transport halted and roads closed down.

And footage posted online reportedly shows military personnel being deployed onto the streets of Wuhan, from where the virus has emerged, to help with efforts to contain the outbreak.

The coronavirus is spreading rapidly and is now confirmed to have infected more than 800 people in at least 10 countries and to have killed 26.

Online reports suggest Tianmen, a city home to nearly two million people, is the latest to have its public transport and roads shut down.

Chinese New Year is due to be celebrated tomorrow, which normally means millions of people travel around the country and the world to visit family.

Festivities - Country - Beijing - Forbidden - City

But major festivities all over the country have been cancelled, including those at Beijing's Forbidden City, a major tourist destination, and fairs and carnivals in Beijing and Hong Kong.

The World Health Organization last night decided not to declare the outbreak a global emergency but governments around the world are on high alert and screening Chinese passengers at airports.

Shanghai - Disney - Resort - Response - Prevention

Shanghai Disney Resort posted on its website: 'In response to the prevention and control of the disease outbreak and in order to ensure the health and safety of our guests and cast, Shanghai Disney Resort is temporarily closing Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown.

'We will continue to carefully monitor the situation and... announce the reopening date upon confirmation.'
