Electric semi-truck company Nikola Corporation have announced a powerful new battery that could double the range of electric vehicles without adding any extra size or weight.
The Arizona company promises the battery will have four times the energy density of a lithium ion battery and could cost 50 percent less to manufacture.
Battery - Company - Phase - Development - Penetration
The battery is still being developed at the company and is being prepared for the next phase of development, which will be a nail penetration test, during which a nail punctures the battery cell to cause a short circuit and test its flammability.
Nikola says the battery could extend the range of standard electric vehicles from 300 miles to as much as 600 miles, with no added cost or compromises in form factor.
Configuration - Battery - Bank - Technology - Range
In an electric semi-truck configuration designed for a much larger battery bank, the new technology could give a maximum range of 800 miles and save as much as 5,000 pounds compared to a lithium-ion battery...
