A collection of Jurassic Park-like fossilised amber containing 100 million year old insects has emerged for sale at auction.
The 12 translucent lumps of the prehistoric resin date back to when dinosaurs walked the earth.
Samples - Form - Insects - Creature
At least five of the samples hold the perfectly preserved form of insects including a previously unknown winged creature.
Other insects that were caught in liquid amber include a millipede, two spiders and a cockroach.
Steven - Spielberg - Film - Richard - Attenborough
In Steven Spielberg's classic 1993 film starring Richard Attenborough dinosaurs are reintroduced to the world by extracting their DNA from a mosquito preserved in amber.
Although most biologists agree the scenario isn't possible, it is still believed by many experts that DNA can be preserved in amber for millions of years.
Collection - Sale - Hammer - Summers - Place
The collection which has now emerged for sale is to go under the hammer with Summers Place Auctions of Billinghurst, West Sussex.
They are expected to sell for hundreds of thousands of pounds with the money going to the the Advanced Amber Kretaceous Zoologia.
Body - Years - Collection - Chunk - Order
The UK-based scientific body has spent several years amassing the collection but are now parting with a large chunk in order to raise funds.
It is hoped that the money will allow them to perform better and more detailed research than ever before.
