Burglars break into a home owned by a billionaire mall magnate, swiping $140,000 in jewelry and bags

Police say a group of burglars stole $140,000 worth of jewelry and more than two dozen handbags from a shopping mall magnate's New York City mansion.

The Bronx home belongs to Don Ghermezian, the CEO of the company, Triple 5 Group, that runs Mall of America in Minnesota and the new American Dream complex in the New Jersey Meadowlands.

The New York Police Department says a group of unidentified people broke into the house, in the affluent Riverdale neighborhood, through a rear window on a balcony on Saturday, just before 5.30p.m.

His three-story mansion sits in part of the high-end section called Villanova Heights that, the New York Daily News said, has its own security patrol.
