Lord Trimble: Brexit deal 'in accordance' with Good Friday Agreement

Boris Johnson's Brexit deal is 'fully in accordance' with the Good Friday Agreement, once of the architects of the landmark peace deal said today.

Lord Trimble, the ex-First Minister of Northern Ireland, attacked Arlene Foster's Democratic Unionist Party over its refusal to back the Prime Minister in Saturday's crucial Commons vote.

The former Ulster Unionist Party leader said it was a 'great step forward' after the DUP accused the PM of 'rising a coach and horses' through the 1998 accord, which ended decades of sectarian violence in the province.

His intervention could help calm the nerves of Tory Brexiteers uneasy about backing the Brexit deal while the DUP is opposed to it.
