Wildlife expert says large cat spotted climbing on home in DC is NOT a mountain lion

The internet is divided over whether a very large feline spotted climbing over the fence of a home in Washington DC - and leaving deep claw marks - is just an oversized domestic animal, or a mountain lion.

On Sunday, DC lawyer, Giulia di Marzo, shared security footage of the animal as it jumped on her fence on a Georgetown neighborhood blog.

In the video, the cat is seen climbing the fence and walking along the top of it before jumping to the ground.

Hours later, Marzo checked her security cameras and saw the cat clawing its way to the top of the fence around 4am Sunday morning.

She then posted the video on her blog and wrote: 'Does not look like a domestic cat… looks a lot like a mountain lion.'

The cat's presence prompted wildlife experts to weigh in, and they determined that the large cat is not a mountain lion after reviewing the footage.

Tommy - Wells - Director - District - Department

Tommy Wells, director of the District's Department of Energy and Environment, said that mountain lions don't have stripes on their tails and the proportions of the animal seen on video are 'magnified by the camera', according to The Washington Post.

'We're confident it's a common domestic cat,' he said....
