Militant rail union leader Mick Cash threatens further wave of strikes and industrial action

The leader of the biggest rail workers union has followed up his re-election with a warning that a wave of strikes and other forms of industrial action will go ahead.

Mick Cash won the support of thousands of transport workers to serve another five years as general secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union.

Action - Walkout - RMT - Members - South

The first action will be a four-day walkout by RMT members at South Western Railway from Friday in the long-running guards on trains dispute.

Industrial action is also planned in the coming weeks on parts of London Underground, Bluestar Buses in Dorset and Hampshire, and Nexus (Tyne & Wear Metro) in separate disputes, while strikes on Merseyrail over the guards row have been suspended as talks continue.

Mr Cash said: 'The election for general secretary is done and this union is now wholly focused on our industrial and political campaigning strategy for the next five years as we seek to extend and defend our members' working conditions, jobs, pay and pensions in every sector where we organise.

'My message to the employers is simple, this trade union will leave no-one behind in the pursuit of workplace justice and we will stand and fight wherever that principle comes under attack.
