Electric car charging sites overtake fuel stations for first time in the UK

Electric car owners have almost 1,000 more places to charge up than those with petrol or diesel vehicles.

There are 9,300 battery vehicle charging stations in the UK, compared with 8,400 fuel stations, according to the website Zap-Map.

Vehicle - Sales - Cent - Perks - Road

Electric-only vehicle sales are up 70 per cent with helpful perks such as road tax exemption and, from 2020/21, no company car tax.

Britain’s first fuel station opened at Aldermaston in Berkshire in 1919, but 80 per cent have closed since 1970.

Just four remain in London’s Congestion Charge zone.
