Police in Texas shot and killed a man on Thursday afternoon after he attempted to use a child as human-shield in an exchange of gunfire with officers, authorities have confirmed.
Markevvion Devonte Cannon, 19, was killed from a single gunshot wound to the head on July 18, following a 911 call from a woman whispering that there was a man with a gun inside her Fort Worth apartment.

SWAT and heavily armored officers quickly descended on the property, training their weapons towards a unit on the third floor of an apartment complex at 2900 Broadmoor Drive.
As officers approached the building, Cannon used handgun to fire several rounds at responders on the ground below, striking one officer’s shield.

Chief of Police Ed Kraus said authorities were unable to return fire because he was holding up a child and using them as a screen.
Hostage communicators attempted to build a dialogue with Cannon after he barricaded the door of the apartment to prevent entry to little avail.
