'Eat, Pray, Love' author to match EVERY donation to Row New York charity for her 50th birthday

The author of 'Eat, Pray, Love' has pledged to match donations to a New York charity that is near and dear to her heart, in honor of her 50th birthday.

Elizabeth Gilbert made the announcement in a video shared on Instagram on Thursday, touting the benefits of Row New York, which is an organization that teaches competitive rowing to children from economically challenged New York City neighborhoods.

'If you donate to Row New York today, I will match your donations DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR. No limit! (What do I care? I have no heirs, and I love these kids! So let’s pile up the dough.) Let’s do this, you guys. Let’s help these champions soar.'

Gilbert included a link to donate in her post, as well as in her Instagram bio, adding: 'I love you all. Here’s to the next 50 years!'

On Thursday, the landing page for donations featured a special happy birthday message to Gilbert.

Founded in 2002, Row New York is 'based on the premise that the discipline of competitive rowing combined with rigorous academic support yields powerful returns,' according to the charity's website.

Instills - Athletes - Work - Persistence - Grit

'Rowing instills in athletes a strong work ethic, persistence, and grit,' the organization said. 'This is particularly evident in the classroom, where focus and determination produce higher grades and college acceptance rates.'

That's what' Row New York aims to do and Gilbert wants her following to help.

Video - Thursday - Gilbert - Heartfelt - Message

In her video on Thursday, Gilbert included a heartfelt message, writing that she's happier than ever and did not want any personal presents to celebrate her milestone birthday 'because I am so blessed already.'

Instead, she shared: 'I would love to use this day to help out some wonderful young people who DESERVE to have so much more than they’ve got,' and asked her nearly 800,000 followers to join her.
