A man who was wearing a Make America Great Again hat as he shoved a Mexican immigrant onto the subway tracks and injured him while shouting insults has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Willie Ames, 49, was sentenced on Friday in Manhattan criminal court for his attack on 26-year-old Luis Lopez in April 2018 on the uptown No. 4 train platform in Union Square station.

'Mr. Ames, there is no room for violence in a civilized society, and certainly no room for racial animus and hate,' the judge said as she handed down the sentence.
The attack apparently unfolded as a verbal altercation on a No. 4 train, and spilled out onto the platform as the train pulled into the station.

'You come here and you take our jobs!' Ames allegedly shouted at Lopez, a Mexican national who works in construction. 'You bring drugs!'
Ames punched Lopez in the head several times before pushing him off the platform onto the tracks, the court heard.

Lopez was knocked unconscious as he fell onto the tracks. He had to have his head wound stapled shut.
