White House says it isn't taking any action to demote Fed chair Jerome Powell

White House chief economic advisor Larry Kudlow said the White House is not taking any actions that would demote Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, a favorite target of President Trump's due to his interest rate policy.

'It's a six-month old story,' said Kudlow, when asked about a Bloomberg News report the White House had investigated a plan to try to demote Powell.

'We - Action - Status - Kudlow

'We are not taking any action to change his status,' Kudlow said.

'I'm not going to confirm or deny any action,' Kudlow told reporters outside the White House on Tuesday.

Kudlow - 'aware - Story - Accounts - Months

Kudlow said he was 'aware' of the story,' and repeatedly refused to confirm it – even as he acknowledged at least accounts of it had been around for months, adding under questioning that it was 'not happening.'

'It allegedly happened six months ago. It's not happening today, therefore I have nothing to say about it,' said Kudlow.
