Kayakers rescue injured seal and cut off deadly fishing line wound round its neck

This is the heartwarming moment a baby seal being strangled by a plastic fishing line is cut free by two kayakers.

Spotting the bleeding pup, which may have had an eye pecked out by a seagull, the pair hauled it onto a kayak to complete the life-saving operation.

Rescue - GoPro - Walvis - Bay - Namibia

The rescue was shot on a GoPro at Walvis Bay, Namibia, the second one filmed at the bay in six months after another seal got a fishing line stuck around its neck.

Shocking GoPro footage shows the small seal, with a bleeding open eye socket, hauled onto a kayak.

One of the rescuers then cuts the plastic string away from its neck, as the other restrains it, before the youngster falls back into the sea.

Schalk Louw, who helped rescue the distressed seal, said: 'We spotted this Cape fur seal pup in the water with a line around its neck.

'The seagulls pecked its right eye out so my friend Peter went and loaded it into the kayak. He called me over and I cut the line off.'
