U.S seizes North Korean ship over 'sanctions-busting' hours after Kim Jong-Un fires MORE missiles

The Trump administration says it has seized a North Korean cargo ship that U.S. officials say was used to transport coal in violation of international sanctions.

The Justice Department announced the seizure Thursday of the Wise Honest. The ship was detained by Indonesia last month with two dozen crew members on board.

US - Officials - Payments - Maintenance - Equipment

U.S. officials say payments for maintenance and equipment for the ship were made unwittingly in American dollars through U.S. banks.

The announcement was made at a time of tension between the two countries.

Hours - North - Korea - Missiles - Weapons

It came hours after North Korea fired two suspected short-range missiles in its second weapons launch in five days.

The two projectiles were launched from a base in North Korea's north-west and aimed toward the east, Seoul defense officials said.

Experts - Doubt - Weapons - Miles - Miles

Experts said there was 'no doubt' that the weapons, which are said to have flown around 260 miles and 167 miles respectively, were missiles.

It comes just days after the North launched rocket artillery and an apparent short-range ballistic missile into the ocean.

Theprojectile - Direction - Sino-ri - North - Pyongan

Theprojectile was fired in an eastward direction and appeared to originate from Sino-ri in North Pyongan province.

South Korea is still analyzing whether it was a single missile or multiple projectiles.

Sino-ri - Missile - Base - Miles - Pyongyang

The decades-old Sino-ri operational missile base, 45 miles north-west of Pyongyang, is one of North Korea's longest-running missile facilities.

It houses a regiment-sized unit equipped with Nodong-1 medium-range ballistic missiles, according to the Centre for Strategic and International Studies.

Anything fired from it in an easterly direction would have to cross the Korean peninsula before reaching the sea.

Just 10 minutes later, the U.S. tested its own intercontinental ballistic missile which flew 4,200 into the Pacific, in a planned test.

It came hours after the U.S. Special Representative on North Korea, Stephen Biegun, arrived in Seoul late on Wednesday for talks.
