A 13-year-old girl who died days after being involved in a fight while walking home from school was killed by a brain tumor, according to her autopsy.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences said Monday that Kashala Francis died of complications from pilocytic astrocytoma, the most common childhood brain tumor.

The autopsy didn't list any contributing factors in her death.
Francis died in hospital on April 24 just six days after she was attacked as she walked home from Attucks Middle School by two of her classmates. The assault was captured on cellphone video.

Her mother, Mamie Jackson, told KTRK that a girl had kicked Francis in the head during the fracas.
Jackson said Kashala came home that afternoon bearing a bruise on her face, but reassured her she was otherwise unharmed.

Two days later, on April 20, the young teen appeared to be delusional. The next day, Jackson said her daughter grew weak and repeatedly complained of a strong headache.
