Sir Mo Farah is embroiled in an extraordinary row with fellow athletics star Haile Gebrselassie amid bizarre claims over the British runner's stay at an Ethiopian hotel.

Farah took aim at Gebrselassie after claiming he had a watch, two phones and £2,600 stolen from a hotel owned by the Ethiopian athlete.

Gebrselassie fired back with unsubstantiated claims, denied by Farah, that the Briton had attacked a married athlete in a gym at the Addis Ababa residence and had failed to pay his service bill.

Farah's team has dismissed the allegations but the Ethiopian has threatened to set his lawyers on the British running legend.

The row erupted yesterday when Farah criticised two-time Olympic champion Gebrselassie over the alleged theft at the Yaya Africa Athletics Village.

The British athlete said Gebrselassie did not return his messages about the incident, and said: 'I just want him to take responsibility for getting my stuff back.

'It's a hotel's responsibility to be able to get it back. You pay for each night - you're not getting it free.'

Four-time Olympic champion Farah claims that hotel staff used a room key to steal the money from his lodgings which allegedly had a faulty safe.

Gebrselassie - Farah - Claims - Statement - Reports

Gebrselassie, 46, responded to Farah's claims with an astonishing statement alleging 'multiple reports of disgraceful conduct' by the four-time Olympic champion and his entourage.

He alleged, without providing evidence, that Farah had been reported to the police for 'attacking a married athlete in the gym'.

No charges were filed after Gebrselassie's personal intervention as a mediator, the Ethiopian claimed.
