Schumer Flashback: “Phrases Like ‘Undocumented’…Convey Message to American People Their Gov’t Is Not Serious’

If Democrats refer to illegal aliens as “undocumented migrants,” Americans won’t believe they are serious about stopping illegal immigration, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) once cautioned.

In a June 24, 2009 speech to the Migration Policy Institute, Schumer issued the warning while unequivocally declaring illegal immigration “wrong”:

“We must create a system that converts the current flow of unskilled illegal immigrants into the United States into a more manageable and controlled flow of legal immigrants who can be absorbed by our economy. The first of these seven principles is that illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple.

“When we use phrases like ‘undocumented workers,’ we convey a message to the American people that their Government is not serious about combating illegal immigration, which the American people overwhelmingly oppose.”
