NFL teams pay tribute after former football star Reggie Cobb dies of a suspected heart attack at 50

Former NFL running back and Tennessee college star Reggie Cobb died Saturday, according to the San Francisco 49ers. He was 50.

Cobb spent the past 10 years as a scout for the 49ers.

The team didn't divulge a reason for the unexpected death but the Sacramento Bee reported a suspected heart attack.

'We are devastated by the sudden loss of a tremendous teammate and loyal friend, Reggie Cobb,' general manager John Lynch said in a statement.

'Reggie - Person - Ability - Room - Personality

'Reggie was an enthusiastic and passionate person who had a special ability to brighten up a room with his personality and infectious smile.

'For 10 years, the 49ers were better because of Reggie and these unique qualities that he possessed. He was a top-notch scout and an exemplary man whose years of service to this organization and the National Football League will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this time of mourning.'

Lynch - Rookie - Safety - Stanford - Cobb

Lynch was a rookie safety from Stanford when he played with Cobb for Tampa Bay in 1993.

Cobb played seven NFL seasons and rushed for 3,743 yards and 25 touchdowns and also caught 123 passes for 949 yards and two scores.
