Fears grow for American hiker, 68, missing in Baja California, Mexico

Fears are growing for an American woman who vanished from a group hiking trip in the Mexican state of Baja California a week ago.

Kat Hammontre, 68, set out on a walking track with several friends near San Felipe last Thursday before she hurt her toes and told her companions she would stay put and wait for their return.

However, when the group came back along the trail around 90 minutes later, Hammontre and her dog, Tootsie, were gone.

Her husband, Greg Sundquist, was waiting in his car near the start of the hiking track, and told investigators that she never returned.

Group - Friday - Mexican - Helicopters - Area

A search-and-rescue group was set up last Friday, and the Mexican military brought in helicopters to comb the area, about 120 miles south of the U.S. border.

However, there has been no sign of Hammontre or Tootsie.
