Question of the day: Are Democrats engaging in world-class hypocrisy when they accuse President Donald Trump of treating illegal immigrant children and families as “pawns” when he threatens to send them to so-called “sanctuary cities,” since that is essentially what Democrats have been doing almost since the day he took office by using immigration as a launch pad for a string of lawsuits against the administration?
Not only did several House committee chairs—Reps. Jerrold Nadler, Elijah Cummings and Bennie Thompson—accuse the president of playing that political game, but so did Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, a Democrat who leans farther to the left almost every time she speaks. Durkan bylined a piece in the Washington Post over the weekend that said this, among other things: “It is against our values to use people – including children and families in crisis – as political pawns.”

But isn’t that really what Durkan, and Democrat Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson, and other attorneys general, have been doing with their lawsuits? She noted that cities have been winning lawsuits, but conveniently didn’t add that the U.S. Supreme Court recently sided with the president on noncitizen detention.
And then Durkan’s bylined piece said something else that will infuriate gun owners. She accused Trump of “demonizing immigrants and refugees to incite fear and to distract the American public from his own failures.”
