Cigarette Taxes: N.Y. Highest, $4.35 per Pack, Mo. Lowest, $0.17 per Pack

(CNSNews.com) -- A new report by the Tax Foundation shows how much each state adds in taxes to a pack of cigarettes, revealing that New York and Connecticut charge the most at $4.35 in excise taxes and Missouri charges the least, $0.17 per pack.

"On average, states charge $1.73 of taxes per pack of 20 cigarettes," reported the Tax Foundation. "As of 2016, taxes accounted for almost half of the retail cost of a pack of cigarettes." Federal and state taxes "made up 44.3 percent of the final price, on average" for a pack...
