She is set to portray paleontologist Mary Anning for new period drama Ammonite.

And, Kate Winslet, 43, was seen on the Devon set of the upcoming **** romance on Wednesday, clad in full Victorian costume as she climbed into a small boat before setting sail to film scenes elsewhere.

Production on the film continues even after the family of dinosaur pioneer Anning hit out at the filmmakers for 'inventing' the fact that she was gay.

Oscar-winning actress Kate was transported back to the 1840s for the film, inspired by the life of legendary fossil hunter Mary Anning.

A bonnet atop her head was held on with a rouge necktie, and a beige scarf knotted around her neck lightened her ensemble somewhat.

The Titanic star was seen getting into character, her face free of heavy make-up and her hair dyed brown, worn parted in the centre.

Keeping safe, the actress donned a life jacket atop her period costume and was helped aboard the vessel by professionals.

Kate, who displayed a sense of focus on her face as she climbed aboard, wore a pair of fingerless gloves and clutched onto a flask of hot coffee.

Surrounded by crew members, The Holiday star flashed a wide smile as she eased into her journey across the water.

Meanwhile, Barbara Anning, a distant niece who still lives near the Jurassic Coast where the fossil hunter made many discoveries, said there was no proof she was ever in a same-sex relationship.
