George Pell: Unredacted royal commission report likely to be released after Cardinal's appeal

The conviction of Cardinal George Pell paves the way for blanked out pages from the child abuse royal commission report to be released for the first time.

The Royal Commission redacted more than 60 pages of its 2017 final report about the Ballarat diocese, at least some of which was believed to relate to Pell.

Pell - City - Priest - Administrator - Church

Pell, 77, was born and grew up in the regional Victorian city, and served as a priest and as a senior administrator in the church from 1973 until 1987.

The mystery pages are believed to report on what was done about paedophile priests in the diocese where Pell was in a position of power.

Australia - Paedophile - Priests - Gerald - Francis

One of Australia's worst paedophile priests, Gerald Francis Ridsdale, worked in the area.

He was most recently found guilty of abusing 11 boys and one girl from 1962 to the 1980s.

Pell - Ridsdale - House - Months - Presbytery

Pell and Ridsdale even shared a house together for 10 months in the presbytery where Ridsdale molested an 11-year-old girl.

The redactions to the royal commission were made so 'current or future civil or criminal proceedings' were not prejudiced.

Court - Watchers - Report - Future - Commission

Court watchers have foreshadowed that the report will be released in the near future and the royal commission always expected the unredacted report to be published one day.
