A gunman has been shot to death and a bystander has been injured during a shoot-out with Dutch police in Amsterdam.

Dutch police shot and killed a man on a path behind the country's central bank in the city after he pulled a firearm on officers.

Cops - Reports - Man - Gun - Street

Cops had been responding to reports of a man with a gun on an adjoining street when he 'came at the agents with the weapon', police said.

He died of his injuries while a bystander was also wounded, police said in a statement.

Television - Station - AT5 - Photos - Ambulances

Local television station AT5 published photos of ambulances at the scene and cited eyewitnesses as saying around 20 shots were fired.

Other eyewitnesses reported hearing as many as 40 shots fired during the incident at around 7.15pm.

Photographer - Dennis - Brandsma - Scene - Killing

Photographer Dennis Brandsma, who lives near the scene of the killing said he saw the gunman lying on the floor after he was shot dead by officers.
