China bans female live-stream hosts from wearing lingerie, see-through clothes and sexy uniforms

Authorities in central China have issued a new set of regulations for live-streamers, including stricter rules for underage hosts and a new dress code for female presenters.

Female live-streamers are now banned from wearing lingerie and sexy uniforms, as well as see-through, flesh-coloured or figure-hugging clothing, according to the notice cited by Xinhua News Agency.

Standards - Hosts - Monday - Hubei - Government

The standards targeting live-stream hosts, or 'zhubo' in Chinese, were released on Monday by the Hubei provincial government and the Wuhan Software Industry Association (WSIA).

The new rules, which came into effect on Tuesday, also stipulate minors must provide their guardians's ID card, household registration and a signed application form before they can appear on camera on their own.

Currently, the regulations are being implemented in Hubei but officials hope the standards will be adopted nation-wide in the future.

Li Yao, director of WSIA, told the Global Times that the city of Wuhan is home to some of the country's largest live-streaming companies, 'which has propelled the enterprises and associations to make regulations to better rectify the industry.'

Example - Platform - Douyu - Users

For example, Wuhan-based live-streaming platform Douyu has 30 million daily active users.

According to the regulations, live-streaming platforms must a provide 24/7 channel for users who want to report abuses. The platform must respond to users' reports and stop or ban a violator's account within 90 seconds of receiving a complaint....
