The days of losing sleep due to your snoring partner may be over.
A team of researchers from Northern Illinois University have created a smart pillow that uses noise-cancelling technology and 'adaptive algorithms' to adjust to a snorer's breathing patterns and silence their noisy wheezing.
Result - Anyone - Share - Bed - Annoying
As a result, anyone who's forced to share a bed with an annoying, snoring partner can finally get some rest.
For now, the smart pillow is just a concept, detailed in a new study published in the IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica.
Researchers - Technology - Snoring
The researchers aren't the first to try to use noise-cancelling technology to silence snoring.
Previous systems have mounted the technology inside headboards and blankets, but this device is built right into the pillow itself.
System - Works - Sounds - Sound - Waves
The noise-canceling system works by detecting the snoring sounds, then producing sound waves that are of 'equal amplitude' to block it out, according to IEEE.
A 'reference microphone' picks up snoring sounds, while two 'error microphones' pick up ambient noises.
Filter - Noises - Signal - Speakers
Then, an adaptive filter takes these noises and creates an 'appropriate anti-noise signal,' which is then played through two speakers in...
