Universities must stop pressuring applicants into accepting unconditional offers, the higher education watchdog has warned.

Unconditional offer-making – where applicants receive a place regardless of their A level results – has risen rapidly over the last five years, from 3,000 in 2013 to 117,000 in 2018.
