Hero cop is killed after trying to stop armed men who robbed an Argentine financial center

A group of armed men killed an off-duty Argentine cop who tried to detain them after a financial center robbery.

The heroic police officer Marcelo Pablo Acuna, 52, was sitting inside his own vehicle when he came to the aid of his friend Héctor Barone, 68, whose business was being robbed.

The cop was shot by one of the armed suspects and was declared dead at the scene of the crime. The robbers were in costume, with one dressed as a nurse and another as an Orthodox Jew.

The suspects fled in Acuna's vehicle and then jumped into an SUV driven by one of the men before they rammed into a police cruiser at an intersection in the town of Vicente Lopez, near the capital city of Buenos Aires.

The four men got into shootout with the police, wounding two cops before they were finally apprehended.

Agents with the Argentina Federal Police arrested Luis Alfredo Guerreño, 35, who was wearing a bulletproof vest.

The cops also apprehended Ángel Martínez, 42, and Adrian Federico Romero, 36, who were dismissed from the federal police force in 2009 and 2012, respectively.

A fourth suspect, who was behind the wheels of the getaway vehicle, was still missing as of Tuesday afternoon's assassination, according to Argentine news outlet Todo Noticias.
