Video: Electrical explosions, sparks light up Kenner sky before power outages

It was a spectacular display of light that left thousands of Kenner residents in the dark on Thursday.

Dramatic cellphone video from WWL-TV viewer Giovanni Bommarito showed several large electrical explosions and power lines sparking up and down Williams Boulevard.

Power - Outages - Winds - Louisiana

The power outages happened as heavy winds pushed into southeast Louisiana.

According to the Entergy Louisiana outage map, more than 10,000 customers were without power in the Kenner area around 5 a.m.

Kenner - Assistant - Fire - Chief - Terence

Kenner Assistant Fire Chief Terence Morris said the outage was caused in part by a power pole fire. However, it is unclear what caused that fire.

The fire closed parts of Williams Boulevard, West Esplanade Avenue and 24th Street for hours.
