Photographs have emerged of a 22-year-old man who has been missing aboard the Carnival Fantasy cruise ship for going on three days.

The man, identified as 'Luke', boarded the Mexico-bound ship on Saturday at the Port of Mobile in Alabama with a group of nine people and three chaperones.

The chaperones told officials that Luke, who has special needs, ran off on Sunday night and hasn't been seen since.

An extensive search has been carried out by the boat crew, the Mexican Navy and a canine team, but officials say there is still no sign of the missing passenger. He has also not been spotted during multiple reviews of surveillance footage.

Luke was pictured in the media for the first time on Tuesday evening after the ship docked in Cozumel, Mexico.

His information was shared on in the Facebook group 'Cruise Cargo Life', where one commenter who claimed to know Luke posted a photo of him an additional details.

'He's autistic and hasn't had his meds since he went missing. He's probably frightened/disoriented (assuming he's hiding).

In a statement made to Fox News on Monday, Carnival said: '[The passenger] is part of an organized group of nine traveling with three chaperones, and was last seen in his stateroom.

'He ran without warning out of the stateroom, and after his chaperone was unsuccessful in locating him, the chaperone notified the ship's crew,' the cruise line said in a statement to Fox News.
