Gisele Bündchen has revealed she considered 'running away' from the show that made her a star after realizing she was expected to walk the runway while topless.

The 38-year-old supermodel got candid in her tell-all memoir Lessons: My Path To A Meaningful Life.

Gisele wrote that her modeling career was almost over then and there when the 'barely 18' year-old model decided to refuse to walk in the 1998 Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer show - until she was saved by an assistant with an unconventional idea.

'As soon as Val, the makeup artist, saw the situation, she said she would paint a top on me using white makeup,' wrote the now top-earning model.

Autobiography - Tuesday - Bündchen - Teenager - Show

In the autobiography, released on Tuesday, Bündchen revealed that as a teenager with 'limited' English, she 'couldn't believe it' when she was selected to walk in her first international show in the late 1990s.

She had been auditioning with no luck, at the height of heroin chic, when McQueen finally cast her. She beat out thousands of girls who'd been lined up on the street at her audition.

Show - Fittings - Night

Leading up to the show, she was surprised she hadn't been called in for fittings, even the night before.

She arrived, was fitted with a black wig and heavy eyeliner, and given three 'looks' she would be wearing.

Looks - Thing - Bathing - Suit - Dress

The first two looks, a silver thing that resembled a bathing suit and a a dress, she remembers, she wore with no problem.

Then it was time for her third look - a fishtail skirt.

Dream - Job - Nightmare - Top - Skirt

Her dream job quickly turned into a nightmare when the 18-year-old asked where the accompanying top was for the skirt she was meant to walk in.

'There is no top,' came the reply.

The Brazilian model 'began to cry' and admitted her first thought was of how 'disappointed and embarrassed' her parents would be...
