Cincinnati shooter kills three and injures two at Fifth Third Bank near Fountain Square

Three people were killed and two others were critically wounded in a shooting at a bank in downtown Cincinnati early this morning.

The Cincinnati Police Department sent out a tweet a 9.23am reporting an 'active shooter/officer involved shooting incident' at Fifth Third Bank at 511 Walnut Street.

Cincinnati - Police - Chief - Eliot - Isaac

Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac said at a press conference that the gunman was killed after exchanging fire with police officers.

Just before 1pm, police executed a search warrant at an apartment building in North Bend, Ohio, believed to be connected to the bank shooter.

Neighbor - Station - WLWT - Person - Building

A neighbor told the station WLWT the person in questioned had moved into the building just a day or two ago.

According to the chief, the incident began unfolding at 9.10am when a 911 call came in reporting shots fired at the bank.

Isaac - Shooter - Loading - Dock - Building

Isaac said the shooter entered the loading dock at the building and opened fire, then proceeded to the lobby of Fifth Third Bank, where several police officers engaged the suspect, killing him.

The chief said he could not confirm local media reports that the gunman was a disgruntled employee of the bank, and said he had no information that the victims were targeted.

Cincinnati - Mayor - John - Cranley - Gunman

Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley said the gunman was 'actively shooting innocent victims' and that it was a 'horrific' scene.

He noted the building on the city’s Fountain Square houses popular ice cream, sandwich and pastry shops.

He says it 'could have been much, much worse' if not for the immediate police response to end the threat.

'This is not normal, and it shouldn't be viewed as normal,' the mayor told reporters, adding that the United States is the only industrialized nation with frequent active shooting incidents. 'We as a country have to deal with...
