A boat full of tourists had to be evacuated after catching fire on the sea near Taiwan yesterday afternoon.
All 44 tourists and two crew members on the whale-watching boat were saved after the flames broke out in the engine room and spread throughout the boat in less than 10 minutes, according to local reports.

One passenger told the press that consequences of the fire would be disastrous had the rescue boats arrived five minutes later.
Footage shot from other vessels shows thick black smoke billowing into the air and flames ripping through the boat.

The boat, Huadong 2, had just sailed 2.2 nautical miles when the incident happened, according to Taiwan News.
It is said that Huadong 2 departed from Taiwan's Hualien port at around 1:10pm and the fire broke out at around 1:30pm.

All people on Huadong 2 were evacuated within five minutes to Whale World 3, another whale-watching boat that is operated by the same tourist company and happened to be in the area.
