‘Reliable Sources’ Guest: Trump ‘May Be Responsible for Many More Million Deaths’ Than Hitler, Stalin

This week on the Sunday news shows: A psychiatrist compared President Donald Trump to dictators Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong, Democratic presidential candidates discuss Israel and China, and a former lawmaker announced his plans to primary Trump.

Former chair of psychiatry at Duke University Allen Frances said on CNN's Reliable Sources that Trump "may be responsible for many more million deaths" than the dictators Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong.

Frances made the comment just after informing host Brian Stelter that he believes psychiatrists diagnosing Trump as mentally unfit for office amounts to undue politicization of medicine. Frances also said that, in his view, Trump's insanity reflects the insanity of the people who elected him.

"Calling Trump crazy hides the fact that we're crazy for having elected him and even crazier for allowing his crazy policies to persist," Frances said. "Trump is as destructive a person in this century as Hitler, Stalin, and Mao were in the last century. He may be responsible for many more million deaths than they were. He needs to be contained but he needs to be contained by attacking his policies, not his person."

Hitler was responsible for the Holocaust, in which over six million Jewish people were killed. Stalin and Mao killed untold millions, with Stalin once remarking, "a single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic."

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D., Minn.) disagreed with freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.), telling Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace, "I don't agree with her on her positions on Israel and I certainly don't agree with anti-Semitic comments."
